Why Do I Have a New Groove

What is the easiest way to describe a new very personal blog?
I tried writing a joke, but I always ended up in a bar or before the pearly gates.

I then started a limerick, but you'd be surprised how hard it is to find a rhyme for plump.

So instead I'll just be blunt...(hey that kind of rhymes with plump)

On Sept 2nd I had a Realize Gastric band surgery. This is what my new stomach looks like this

I have been heavy my whole life and although I work out every day and eat right I have not been able to loose any weight for about a year. As most of you know I trained and walked/ran the Park City Marathon which was such a grand achievement, however it finally became very apparent to me that I couldn't be the true person I wanted to be being so heavy. After talking to Chris about this for years, and recently months we decided I would take the leap and have surgery to help me shed the weight forever.

I have wondered what all my friends would say. I know all of you would support me. I guess I just didn't want to be the person who gave up or copped out in anyones eye's, or my own for that matter.

I'm going to keep this blog going for as long as I can and hopefully it will be a cathartic tool for me and help someone else who is struggling with personal challenges.

Thanks again for your friendship and love while Chris has been gone. Finally, I'm giving an open invitation to anyone who wants to do the Park City and Provo half marathons next year with Chris and I, and next year I'm going to run the whole thing.

Burgandy, I think it's awesome that you have done this surgery. My sister-in law had it done 6 months ago, and it probably was the right thing for her considering that she has lost weight since getting it done. I don't think it's a cop-out. I thought the same about my own desision, but really it's taking advantage of medical advancements that can help us with our goals. Anyway, thanks for sharing about it on your blog. I'm sure it will be helpful to anyone interested in doing the same. Very cool for you, really!!!

Wow, you've got a super-high-tech stomach now! I think it's cool. I've watched my mom deal with weight issues my whole life and seen the frustration she has dealt with, and I think you're very brave to take this step! I just watched the video on their website. It was really interesting/kind of yuck. (I'm not a medical person AT ALL.)

I'm excited to hear about your progress!

1. no one would ever think of you as a cop out (you got lost 2x in a marathon and still finished).
2. I am proud of you for going for it. I think it takes courage and determination.
So way to go! It will be great to hear of your progress! My mom had it done when I was young. And she loved it, it changed her life! For the healthy! :) But thanks for calling me and telling me. ;)

I can't see how anyone could see it as a cop-out...I saw your battle wounds! I am so excited for you to meet your goals. Also, I am committing (in front of everyone) to complete the Provo 1/2 marathon with you next year. I should be able to get ready in a year...right?! :)

Burg, I am so happy for you! I'm excited to have you finally see true progress. I remember how diligent you were in your eating and your exercise and how the scale just never budged. I really hope this is the answer for you, and I don't think anyone would utter "cop-out" in reference to you, never.

Firstly, are you feeling alright? Please let me know if I can help. Secondly, I don't think this as a cop out. It's one thing to live your life carefree and then use surgery and medical advancements to fix the neglect you've had on your health and another to keep your body as healthy as you possibly can and use these great tools to aid you in doing so. Best of luck with everything!

Thanks for sending me the link to this. I know you've struggled with this for the longest time. This should do the trick. Remember that I love you!!! You're ONE HOT MAMA!!!

It can't be a cop out when it's not easy and this is not an easy thing to do. First there's the surgery and then changing your eating habits drastically. It is a great thing and I'm really glad you had the opportunity to do it. It will totally be a blessing, but it still takes A LOT of work.
