I went to the doctor for my one month follow up and they did a metabolic test to see how many calories I can eat to maintain my weight. The higher the # the more fit you are. Well I was a 2600!! and it only scores to 3000. So I have a higher metabolism then I thought. I need to just make sure I don't go over my calories for the day and by the end of the week I should continue to loose 3lbs a week. SWEET!! Also, when I'm able to exercise more my score will even be better. I love happy endings.
Why do they make you wear your shoes to be weighed in the doctors office? I wanted to tell them I was actually 2 lbs under that weight but I didn't. Oh well..
Oh I also learned today that while women are on their periods they burn an extra 300+ calories. Which is terrific if we could resist the chocolate.

So what is your calorie intake each day then to lose the 3 lbs per week?
Your new website is wonderful. What an inspiration for all of us. Congratulations on doing so well after your surgery. Just so you know, we only had Karlee and Kaleb for 2 months, but they are now in a different foster home. I couldn't find your phone number so I thought you would like to know. Call me if you want to know what happened.
It's the one time of the month that I allow myself to go a little crazy with the chocolate. It helps me feel better. And it's not healthy chocolate either. No dark chocolate during PMS, only Snickers(I do love the dark one though), Symphony w/toffee and almonds, peanut M&M's, Reese's. Now, at least, I know why I don't gain a ton of weight when I'm eating all that chocolate, that's good to know.
I've always wanted to know what my metabolic rate was. How do I get that done? Do I have to go to a special doctor or should my regular doctor have something that will tell me? What do they do to test you?
Seriously, I cannot stay away from candy during my period. You look great, Burgandy! I can totally see that you've made progress already. Did the doctor say anything about your unhealed incision? Yucka.
Yea my doctor gave me antibiotics and said I should be better soon. Yea duh... If you google metabolic testing you can find the machine they use. You breath into it for about 5 min and it measures how much oxygen is in your breath. I'm not sure where you can take the test probably any sports medicine Doc has one.
Ugh -- I know exactly what you mean by weighing heavier at your doc's office. Same happened to me yesterday. 2 pounds because I wore heavy jeans. Brilliant on my part, eh?
Here's some links to a basal metabolic rate calculators. They're not as accurate as the breathing test Burg was talking about, but it should give you a ballpark figure. This one http://walking.about.com/cs/calories/l/blcalcalc.htm tells you how many calories you need per day. This one tells you how many calories you burn just sitting there. This one is just like the previous one only it gives you a little different figure. Maybe just average the two to get more accuracy.
Dr. C is on this kick lately about women and their periods burning more calories. Must be one of his recent studies....he is so funny!
